Plasma

It looks impressive, but I may in fact be further behind than when I started. I discovered today that in the process of getting the electronics to work I punctured a bit of the vacuum system. I can get pressures low enough for this Argon plasma, but not nearly low enough for the actual experiment. I'm not sure yet how much effort it will take to fix, or if that piece will need to be replaced ("Sometimes a thing gets broke can't be fixed." - Kaylee)

"Sir, what you have there is what we refer to as a focused, non-terminal repeating phantasm, or a Class Five full-roaming vapor."

Nice plasma. Good luck with your remaining work.

Why, thank you! Kind words, warm wishes and Ghostbusters quotes are always appreciated.

If you don't mind my asking, do I know you? By a remarkable coincidence I was discussing Ghostbusters with someone just last week, perchance are you that person?

You're quite welcome. I can hardly get through a conversation without an obligatory reference to Dune, Ghostbusters or the Cthulhu Mythos--all of which seem to be a part of the standard geek lexicon.

I'm fairly certain we don't know each other, unless we've crossed paths randomly at some point. I came to this journal a few years back after blindly following a physics-related comment in another journal, and have checked in occasionally to read up on the progress of your mid-career shift to physics. I'm contemplating a less lofty but similar switch, having once been a microbiology student that succumbed to an easy life of programming and server administration. The pay is excellent, but there are no interesting problems to solve here, mostly inconsequential bit-twiddling. Not sure it rates a lifetime of effort.

An odd coincidence: I happen to work with an editor that received her BSc in Physics from Syracuse, and through some cruel twist of fate she ended up stranded in that fief of Tartarus called Texas. At least the barbeque here is decent...

Cheers,
